Firenze - Florence Postcard

It is unbelievable when you consider the prolific cultural output that has come out of this one, Italian city. When I started drawing the landscape of Firenze, I realised that it was intrinsically linked to the Renaissance artists, philosophers and writers that hail from this period and who helped to create its identity, putting Florence on the world stage. Today, its culturally rich offering, beautiful architecture and wonderful Italian cuisine draws in people from all over the globe. 

Architecturally, Firenze is stunning... acres of red tiled roofs, vast cathedral domes, winding alleys and open squares dotted with cafes serving espresso, chianti and antipasto. My drawing of Firenze includes its most iconic landmarks and local heroes as well as cultural favourites such as shopping and local cake schiacciata alla fiorentina. I went to Florence for a day almost thirty years ago and in drawing it I realise that this was not enough and long to return. Ciao Bella!
