University of California - Berkeley is one of my biggest stockists for my brand worldwide at their Cal Student Store so I was thrilled to be invited to create some live art on the day at their campus store of a big game. I was in awe of the monumental display of my products, which was enough to create a store in itself, and proud to discover that my tote bag is the number 1 best seller :-)
Meeting the team that merchandise my collection and connect my brand to their students, many of whom I met on the day of my live art, was fabulous. We are a team and all play our part in creating, producing and selling products that connect people to a place that they love.
I created a painting based on my illustration that is printed on the gift and homeware range. I can't (and don't want to) replicate it as painting on a canvas is a completely different medium and form of expression. Colour is important and with the gouache I work with, it is less detailed but more flowing that the ink work that I usually create on separate layers.
I was able to squeeze in a second painting to celebrate the home team ... the Golden Bears! The campus was buzzing with people arriving for the big game with the San Diego State Aztecs. The marching band were playing, the cheerleaders were bringing cheer and I joined in the fun whilst I wandered around the beautiful campus, seeing some of the landmarks that I had drawn in my Berkeley painting.
And .. The Golden Bears won! Go Bears! Woohoo!!!
