Ain't No Mountain High Enough

In 4 weeks time, I set off on the biggest climb of my life.  I will be trekking up Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains, that rises up out of the deserts of Africa.  Here it is, featured in my illustration of Morocco.

I am raising money as part of a "Beyond Your Comfort Zone" challenge for Saffron Sheffield, a charity that I am also a trustee of and which provides free therapy and counselling for women who have had significant trauma. Saffron is a vital service for women who would otherwise not able to afford the help they need to recover from abuse, and grow into their authentic selves.  As someone who has recovered from childhood trauma from therapy at key points in my life, I know at first hand how important this service in order to survive and thrive.

I will be setting off on the challenge on 26th April together with a group of hikers as part of an Exodus Activity Group. We will be camping on the side of the mountain, walking at altitude (above 4,000 metres) and climbing steep ascents every day.  I am a little nervous ... it's the toughest hike I will have ever undertaken and for a seasoned walker, it's way outside my comfort zone, so it's perfect for the Saffron challenge.

Here I am on the lower (Ante) Atlas Mountains a couple of years ago.  I love the wilderness, away from phone connectivity and modern conveniences of every day life.

With a pair of boots and a backpack ... it will be just me and the harsh elements, maybe snow, maybe sunburn, maybe altitude sickness, but I'm up for this challenge to raise funds for this essential cause.  The journey may not be an easy one for me, but as in life, it's where you find your inner strength and calm.  And I will see some amazing views over Africa to boot and finally get to the peak on May 1st!

If you can support my challenge to raise funds for Saffron and help women who need therapy to overcome some very significant challenges as survivors of domestic abuse, rape or conflict, then I would be incredibly grateful.
