I remember going to Wien, which, like most people, knew and still know as Vienna, on my first trip abroad as a small girl. I think I was about 7 years old. My dad had been posted in the army and wanted to return, which he did many years later with his family. I was in awe of the gold and glamour of Schonbrunn Palace and fell in love with the beautiful, white horses, the Lippizaner and cried because I couldn't go on the Riesenrad Prater (the big wheel in the fun fair). In my illustration of Wien, the gorgeous Gothic structure of Stephansdom slices through the city, a couple dance the Viennese waltz and Vienna's most famous son: Mozart, sits confidently at the top of the design, opposite the glamorous princess Sissi. Wien is a cultural phenomenon, which has transcended centuries. I long to sit in one of the traditional coffee houses, quietly enjoying a slice of Sachertorte to the tinkle of a Mozart sonata on a piano in the background.
