Staffordshire is a county that has a uniquely important contribution to Britain's industrial past and cultural heritage. World famous for the production of ceramics from the five towns that make up Stoke-on-Trent, "The Potteries" put Staffordshire on the map with historical names that have resonance today: Wedgwood, Minton, Royal Doulton and Spode. I have included examples of these wonderful ceramics within my illustration of Staffordshire, which starts in the bleak and beautiful Peak District, where I have been lucky enough to hike.
The River Trent runs through Staffordshire, skirting past Stafford, Rugeley and Burton upon Trent, which is famous for its beer and many breweries. A horse whistles past Uttoxeter, famous for horse racing, and other entertainment on offer includes Alton Towers and Drayton Manor Park. Personally, I would prefer to go for a walk in Cannock Chase, and I have memories of running through the woods as a teenager, when I used to run for my athletic club (Notts AC).
