Southend On Sea shows what lies beneath an English seaside town… culture, culture and more culture! It's only when I get to research and draw off-the-beaten cultural track places such as Southend On Sea that I come to realise what I and everyone else is missing. Modern art, gorgeous Regency architecture that is the Royal Terrace, ancient treasure such as Prittlewell Priory and Southchurch Hall and all the thrills of the roller coaster ride (count me out on that one). Queen Victoria gives us a friendly wave on her pedestal, looking out to sea (well estuary), on which people paddle board, kite surf and sail. A never-ending pier stretches out and across the River Thames and points the way to the English Channel and foreign lands.
