A merlin and red kit soar across a star lit sky above the mountains of Snowdonia. I have many happy memories of holidaying in this beautiful region, and national park.  As a child I remember seeing the spectacular Swallow Falls at Betws-y-Coed. When I moved to Sheffield, Snowdonia wasn't too far away and I spent two of my Christmas breaks here in the 90s, heading up Snowdon one New Year's Eve and coming down the steep mountain as the mist and dark set in. I ached for days.

My illustration of Snowdonia includes some of its magnificent, stone castles that are dotted around its fringes, telling tales of Wales's ancient past. The wonderfully weird, pottery hub of Portmeirion is also featured, together with the amazing eco-centre of Machynlleth, which I visited thirty years ago. With its sky high mountains and wonderful, deep lakes and beautiful coastline, I think it's time to return to stunning Snowdonia. :-)
