As I grew up in the East Midlands, I was always aware of the presence of Rutland, which is Britain’s smallest county but is packed full of interesting things to do and see.  Rutland Water is known throughout the country amongst water sport enthusiasts and nature lovers. I didn’t realise that a historic house, Hambleton Hall sat at the centre of the man-made lake until I drew it. I love the golden sandstone of many of the historic buildings in Oakham including Tolethorpe Hall, Lyddington Beck House and Oakham Castle, home to hundreds of antique horseshoes! I love the motto for Rutland “Much in Little”, which my jam-packed illustration hopefully portrays!
