Orkney Postcard

JG073330

Orkney is an archipelago of the north east coast of Scotland. The Vikings landed in around 780 AD and brought with them their Nordic ways. Before then, there's lots of evidence of neolithic activity as seen at the wonderful Skara Brae.

In my illustration of Orkney, two puffins fight for airspace, above Startpoint Lighthouse. Fishing boats bob around the sea as do colonies of seals and schools of fish. On land, sheep roam the bleak group of islands and in doing so support the wool knit industry of which the Fair Isle Sweater is most well known. Cruise liners now make their way to Orkney but whales and dolphins are already present, surfacing now and then to everyone's joy.

Julia's vision of Orkney makes a cute and collectable postcard and is also available as a beautiful Art Print for your home.
