Mallorca Greeting Card

JG104940

Mallorca is a stunningly pretty island and some would argue is the jewel in the crown of the Balearic Islands. My very first package holiday, when I was 10 years old, was to Mallorca. It was the first time I drank fresh orange juice, ate olives and tasted spaghetti bolognese... I loved it all! I've therefore included me and my two sisters splashing about in the sea at Ca'n Picafort, which is where we stayed in the early 70's.

Many flock to Mallorca in search of sunshine, including the pianist and composer Chopin. He retreated to the hills of Valldemossa with his lover George Sand but found rain rather than the the warmth of the sun and sadly died but not before he wrote the stunning Raindrop Prelude.

The gothic and grand architecture of the cathedral of Palma together with the moorish castle and palace are a must on everyone's travel list. Inland the terrain is dotted with windmills, olive and orange farms. The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range forms the backbone of the island, from the north east to south west, dropping down to pretty little harbour towns, such as Port D'Andratx and Sa Calobra.

In my illustration of Mallorca I have also included a famous dance that is part of an annual festival on the island, together with one of its most beloved foods: Ensaimada. :-)

Julia's vision of Mallorca makes a cute and collectable greeting card and is also available as a beautiful Art Print for your home.
