Kent Postcard

JG111230

Kent... the garden of England. Home to orchards of apples, vales of vineyards and houses of hops, all of which feature in my illustration of this beautiful English county that reaches out to France.

Lighthouses line the coast, shining their light out over the English Channel on which ferries bob along making their way to Europe as does the Eurostar that I've drawn into my colourful illustration of Kent. Amazing, ancient architecture of cathedrals (Canterbury and Rochester) and castles (Leeds, Dover and Tonbridge) and houses with grand gardens( Knole and Sissinghurst).

The iconic bridge at Dartford and pretty Pantiles at Royal Tunbridge Wells are included in my illustration of Kent, as is the vast, looming structure of the nuclear power station at Dungeness. Spot the little house of the late Derek Jarman on the stony beach next to the power station. I remember visiting this area and being mesmerised by his garden, built out of a ground of pebbles. Nearby, sheep graze on the salty marshland at Romney over which a steam train makes its way across the flat, reclaimed land, making Kent even bigger, better and more beautiful. Time for me to return to this green and pleasant corner of England I think and see all this beautiful architecture and cultural heritage again.

Julia's vision of Kent makes a cute and collectable postcard and is also available as a beautiful Art Print for your home.
