Hull has been feted as a European City of Culture and as I've drawn my way around this industrial, proud, city that is tied to the sea, then it's easy to see why. It is home to several museums that bring wonderful artefacts and historical stories into the 21st century, connecting us to our past as a maritime nation. Hull is also home to flight heroine Amy Johnson as well as abolitionist and politician William Wilberforce, who I find incredibly inspiring and have therefore included a quote that has as much meaning today, three centuries on.
The educational institutions of the University of Hull and Hull College are interesting architecturally and are featured in my cityscape as is the Guildhall and the tidal barrier and Scale Lane Bridge. A lone turtle swims around in The Deep and fishing boats bob around on the Humber together with a ferry that's making its way over to mainland Europe. The multitude of museums is enough of a draw to pull me to this much overlooked port that lies on the East Coast of Britain, but Hull is also very much part of the northern Yorkshire spirit.
