Huddersfield Postcard

JG119330

Hello Huddersfield! As strategic location in England's industrial revolution, I have included some of the many textile mills in my illustration of Huddersfield, in their original form. I have visited a couple of the mills in the past, buying fabric for my eponymous, upcycled tote bag collection, made from wool and cotton remnants. l love the imprint of the mills on the landscape of the city and its industrial heritage, which we can discover through its many museums, some of which I have featured in my design including the Colne Valley Museum.

Huddersfield is a city of two rivers... and a canal, the water being an essential ingredient both to the wool processing as well as transportation. It is also home to stunning viaducts and is surrounded by bleak and beautiful moorlands. I cannot count the number of times I have passed the iconic mast at Emley Moor, piercing the sky. My first journey began over thirty years ago, when I first moved to Yorkshire and used a community print shop in Huddersfield to make my screens for printing. I remember the journey over moorland, which also became the starting point for my creative career.

Julia's vision of Huddersfield makes a cute and collectable postcard and is also available as a beautiful Art Print for your home.
