Gibraltar Postcard

Gibraltar lies, crucially, at the point at which the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet. Container ships, luxury yachts and ferries cross the Straits of Gibraltar, making this one of the busiest sea passages in the world. Thrusting up from the ocean is the Rock of Gibraltar, home to the Barbary Macaque. A Moorish Castle sits half way up the mountain, looking of the Straits to Africa whilst below, Princess Caroline’s Battery and the Great Siege Tunnels reminds us of this tiny nation’s military past. Through recent waterside developments, Gibraltar continues to evolve but traditional architecture from times past, such as in the Grand Casemates Square still give this peninsula its character. I was amused that the airstrip that crosses the main road into Gibraltar … keep your eyes peeled for the airplane when you cross the road!
