Connecticut Postcard

JG109330

Connecticut is a beautiful corner of America, steeped in maritime history and literary heritage. The writers Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe were neighbours and both feature in my illustration of Connecticut.

Connecticut offers The Great Outdoors in buckets, with mountains for hiking and skiing, forests for camping, rivers and sea for kayaking and fishing it's a wonderful place to live and visit. The state capitol of Hartford shines bright in my illustration of Connecticut, looking more like a Venetian palace than a state seat of governance. I love every opportunity to draw lighthouses and Connecticut indulges me with this quirky pastime... I can count six of the best dotted around the coastline at New Haven, Norwalk and New London.

Not surprisingly, wildlife feature strongly in my vision of Connecticut and the state symbols of the brook trout, sperm whale, white oak tree, American robin and mountain laurel all make an appearance as does a rather snappy lobster. I have used the colours of the Connecticut flag to further communicate the identify of the state, which I think has helped to communicate its quintessential charm.

Julia’s vision of Connecticut makes a cute and collectable postcard and is also available as a beautiful Art Print for your home.
