California Tote Bag

This drawing of California is one of a series of six State Scapes I created for a journal publisher. It's often difficult to decide what to include and what to leave out when creating my map like illustrations, particularly in such a diverse and culturally rich region like California. I am intrigued how each state of the USA has its own bird, flower, tree, insect and animal motifs. I have included some of them in my State Scapes as I believe they help to reinforce the individual identity of a place. Natural beauty and not just iconic landmarks or industrial and ambitious architecture makes a place, and so is the case with charismatic California.
