A few years ago, Family Equality, a non-profit organisation that promotes diversity and inclusivity in relationships in the USA, commissioned me to create a design for their wonderful organisation. I donated my design fee so that we could help raise as many funds as possible to help support the LGBTQ+ community.
The design has become a best seller in stores around America as well in the UK with my British, Love Wins version. I absolutely loved drawing the cute characters within the design together with the powerful statements that inspire us all. The design celebrates our uniqueness, and encourages us to explore and be our authentic selves. It looks great on a tote bag.
Inclusivity is a key value of a compassionate and secure world, but we increasingly find ourselves living in a judgy, critical society that is harsh on those that don't fit the very narrowly defined "norm". It so often leaves a gap for bullying to creep in from those who are insecure and fearful or difference, delivered far too easily through social media.
I drew this joyful, colourful illustration because Y'all Means All. It depicts a world where everyone is welcome. My British licensee has created the cutest button badges which look great on a denim jacket or bag.
This weekend, I danced my shoes off with friends at Dartmouth Pride, one of my favourite events in the summer social calendar. Pride brings families and friends together and let's us celebrate our wonderful, colourful, diverse and gorgeous local community, without leaving anyone out in the cold. Because, amid the negative, hostile rhetoric and actions that exists in the world ... LOVE WINS.
