Today is Australia Day, which is a national holiday down under. A celebration of Australian identity and independence, even though the origins of this special day is tied to the British invasion and claim on this wonderful island. Over the last few years I have discovered the diversity and dramatic landscape of Australia, without leaving my door.
Starting in Sydney, I have created illustrations of iconic landmarks, including the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, then working my way across this vast country of verdant valleys and desert landscapes. Cute critters feature throughout the collection, one of my favourites being the cute kangaroos in my Sydney design.
Beautiful Brisbane, with a river winding around the city and home to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary would definitely be on my bucket list.
Marvellous Melbourne, as with my other Australian cityscapes, I have drawn this wonderful Australian is home to the French inspired Laneways area and cool and contemporary St Kilda.
Western Australia is a vast expanse of desert, teeming with life. From cascading waterfalls in the north, to the vast vineyards of the south, Western Australia is a diverse region, rich in natural resources.
Heading east, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast shine their light over the ocean, with endless sandy beaches, wonderful waterfalls, and green mountain ranges over which parakeets fly. Sounds like paradise to me! But watch out for the snapping croc!
A surfers paradise can be found on the Gold Coast, home to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and where I loved drawing a flock of colourful parakeets. Amazing Australia ... enjoy :-)
